Robert Glasper set to expirement during Art Basel Miami

Reflecting on a time when I spent my days at an intimate organization in Delray Beach whose aim was to serve as a cultural hub for the people in South Florida by bringing national jazz and rhythm and blues artists.

I was entertained by jazz then, but working at this venue my understanding of the genre increased especially as I began to forge friendships with musicians and innovators within the industry who lived in the region. A friend, who I also considered a mentor, turned me on to Black Radio Experiment. This album by Robert Glasper featured many of my beloveds, Erykah Badu, Musiq Soulchild and Yasiin Bey back when he first embarked on his name change and more. Sonically, the album is crisp, extensive and the sounds ring through the speakers as if you could know each player personally.

Because of my experience with this album I was cut up at finding out that Glasper would no longer present the Black Radio Experiment. Although, I’m happy to hear he is cooking up new work that includes his new band August Greene with the prominent Chicago born MC Common.
Just recently, Robert Glasper completed a month long residency during the month of October at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City, big ups to him as he is only the fourth artist to do so. When I caught wind of this I wished he’d drum up (no pun intended) something similar in South Florida. I am happy to know he has and will be performing at 1-800-Lucky Wednesday, December 5th at 9pm and couldn’t have chosen a better location in Wynwood to accommodate his effortless style.
